Patagonia’s mission is protecting the planet - and they’ve even made earth their only shareholder.
They use recycled materials, support grassroots environmental causes, and champion fair labour. Outdoor gear that cares as much as you do.
Mountain Equipment
A British brand, making high quality outdoor kit. I’ve been buying and using their products since the mid 90s.
They care about sustainability, using recycled materials and offering repair services. I use their base layer tees, mid-layer fleeces, and a chunky down jacket for the cold weather.
OS Maps
I’m a big fan of OS maps. I use the online app, but will usually take a physical map and compass out too, especially when I’m exploring a new area.

Happy Bottom Bum Butter

Veloforte energy bars
I use Veloforte energy bars when I’m cycling because they use real food (dates, nuts, and fruit) with no artificial additives. Oh and they’re tasty!
Their packaging is becoming more sustainable (you can recycle wrappers via Freepost), and they’re aiming for full recyclability by 2027.
FINDRA
Based in Scotland, FINDRA make women’s outdoor layers and accessories with a sustainable ‘slow fashion’ approach.
They use ethically sourced merino and recycled technical fabrics, plus have a repair service. And they look great too!
The value of in-store expertise
Online shopping is great, but nothing beats the advice and knowledge you get from outdoor specialists. I’ve had genuinely useful advice from Outside in the Peak District for over 30 years, so always think it’s worth finding a good independent outdoor shop near you
SUSTAINABLE LIVING
Neat Cleaning
Neat sell starter packs and small refill bottles - perfect if you’re short on storage space. Top tip: reuse an old spray bottle and just buy the refills.

Tiboo toilet roll
Tiboo toilet roll is made from panda-safe, FSC-certified bamboo. The packaging is plastic-free and they plant a tree for every order.
Tiboo sells other products too, though we’ve only tried the toilet roll. We buy on subscription for a 10% discount.
Miniml laundry
We tried a few laundry products from local refill stores and finally settled on Miniml’s Fresh Linen range.
When our store stopped stocking it, we were pleased to find that Miniml offer an online purchase and refill service. They’re a Yorkshire company too 😉

Rapanui clothing
Based in the UK, Rapanui make clothes from organic cotton and recycled materials, using renewable energy and zero-waste production.
Their Remill process lets you send worn-out clothes back to be remade into new. Not technical, but I love their tees for relaxing after a day in the hills.
Fill Refill
Zero-waste household and personal care products using biodegradable ingredients, no dyes or harsh chemicals, and returnable packaging.
Made in the UK, you can refill at a local refill shop or use the home refill option (they send bag in a box refills and you send the empty back via Freepost).
HEALTH & WELLBING
Scence
Scence make 100% vegan, handmade skincare products in Falmouth, Cornwall. They use ethically sourced, natural ingredients and compostable packaging.
I love their Perfect Rose hand balm. It’s gentle on the skin and smells amazing.
Faith in Nature
Natural, cruelty-free skincare and haircare with sustainably sourced ingredients. I love their Lavender and Geranium shampoo, and Coconut body wash.
I buy the larger containers and refill for the shower, saving plastic waste.
Wild Sage
Natural, handmade soaps and healing balms from Hertfordshire. I love their Wild Sage Healing Balm.
The soaps are plant-based, cruelty free, and come in minimal, recyclable packaging.
Lucy Bee
I finally found a natural tanning product that actually works. Lucy Bee’s self-tan mousse gives a lovely colour that doesn’t feel fake.
They do other products too and are serious about being kind to the planet. Vegan, cruelty-free, and UK-made.
Neal’s Yard Remedies
Neal’s Yard products feel like a real treat! Handcrafted in Dorset using organic herbs and essential oils, they’re gentle and luxurious.
The bottles are recycled or reusable, the packaging is ethically sourced, and many products are vegan and certified organic.
Pentire
Pentire make alcohol-free spirits from Cornish coastal plants like rock samphire, sage, and sea fennel.
They’re vegan, use organic and Fair-Trade ingredients where possible, and package everything in plastic-free recyclable materials. Plus it tastes fantastic!
